Need advice on possibly changing the setting of a comic

I need some advice, and it's a pretty weird situation:

Even though it started just this February, I've been working on TurAnt since the spring of 2023, and it's set in Antalya, which I know a lot about and can easily take reference photos and videos!

BUUUUUUT... It looks like me and my mom will be moving to İstanbul as I'll be transferring to a university there, and I know almost NOTHING about İstanbul, and it means I won't be in Antalya much if not at all, which means gathering references and staying up-to-date with things going on there and how the places have changed will become much harder, and I feel like part of what makes the comic good and special is that I AM in the setting itself and the references and such are obtained on-location by myself. (I'll be honest, it's most likely because some hater has probably jinxed it so I have to leave Antalya and have TurAnt's production be jeopardized.)

So, what should I do? When the comic reaches around 2026 (For reference, the comic is currently in the beginning of 2024), which will most likely be the time I'll be in İstanbul, should I:
A) Have the comic's setting (Antalya) stay the same, and try to rely solely on photos from others, the internet, social media, Google Maps, etc. for references, and continue the comic
B) End TurAnt entirely and later start a spin-off set in İstanbul
C) Have TurAnt continue, but in İstanbul instead of Antalya
Or D) Do none of the above and instead do something else? (Feel free to suggest)

I'm genuinely worried about the move's implications on TurAnt as much as, if not more than the move itself, so I definitely can use a little help. Thank you!!
  • So, update: We gave up on moving to İstanbul! Yay!! (I wonder if talking about it broke the jinx.)

At the same time, I still would like to know what to do if a situation similar to this occurs, so I'll keep this thread open. Thank you!!
  • Honestly, it sounded like it would have been a good experience for you! Taking in more information and changing my perspective has done wonders for both my personal and comic's growth, and having my work grow and change with my life experience is one of the best part of making comics.

If you needed to physically be in a city to write about it, I don't think most of us would be making comics, so if you end up going elsewhere somewhere down the line, I would focus more on what your new environment can teach you about the assumptions you made about your previous one. I hope you get another opportunity eventually!
